A terrific morning at the wonderful Politics and Prose in D.C. with two classes of second graders and some preschoolers, discussing BIG BROTHERS DON'T TAKE NAPS (as well as other books). Some great questions: Why do you write about war? How do you get your titles? I dedicated the gathering of these students to my remarkable friend Florence Parry Heide. Her legacy lives on through them, and through the thousands of children who were (and are) her lifelong readers.
